Project Overview
CEDAM has completed a two-year project, which was funded by the Carrick Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education.
This project worked with ANU staff groups who were pursuing goals related to teaching and learning to develop their leadership capacities.
These networks or groups have been resourced as communities of practice - that is networks of people participating in self-determined activities, sharing knowledge & expertise, and working to achieve shared goals.
'Leadership' in our project context is enabling a group to achieve their goals or vision and encompasses a range of capabilities for teaching excellence (e.g. motivating others and ourselves, communicating to influence, time management etc) and for managing group processes.The project team was made up of a mix of staff from ANU's Centre for Educational Development and Academic Methods who offered skill, process and knowledge bases in teaching and learning, leadership and self-management.
The project offered to:
- Help groups to identify their needs or goals in relation to teaching and learning;
- Strengthen group facilitation processes;
- Resource learning activities (as determined by the group) for skills development;
- Develop leadership know-how in relation to the group's goals and current knowledge, skills and processes;
- Work with groups to evolve a community of practice and to document their activities; and
- Deliver an online resource base and tools to support community activities and connections.
