Key Concepts: Leadership

The Promoting Learning & Teaching Communities Project seeks to build the leadership capacity of staff and students participating in communities of practice.

Leadership for this project focuses on manifestation through actions and behaviours rather than position. The project is concerned with leadership as a shared or distributed activity. Our working approach to leadership is through people:

  • realising their own resources and capabilities;
  • taking some form of responsibility in any given situation;
  • developing a shared vision;
  • working together to achieve their goals.

The project team works with communities of practice to understand shared leadership and build processes that support it. It assists communities of practice to:

  • identify issues that are important to them;
  • decide which issues they wish to work on;
  • enhance how they work together;
  • reflect on their practices, relationships and goals.
