The Carrick Institute
The Carrick Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education was established by the Australian government in 2004 as part of its 'Our Universities: Backing Australia's Future' reform package for higher education.The Institute provides a national focus for the enhancement of learning and teaching in Australian higher education institutions. It manages an annual budget $22 million per year much of it through awards, fellowships and grants that target teaching excellence and leadership.
The Carrick Perspective on Effective Leadership
The Carrick Institute is focussed on multi-level leadership in higher education as fundamental to the promotion and advancement of learning and teaching.
Carrick is interested to go beyond conventional models of leadership and is promoting a richer more open view of leadership that allows for multiple interpretations.
The Institute has identified areas such as institutional leadership, and leadership for learning and teaching through disciplinary and cross-disciplinary approaches as its initial priorities for projects within the Leadership Program.
